Land Degradation

Continues use of land over a long period of time without taking appropriate measures to conserve and manage it, has resulted in land degradation.


Reasons of Land Degradation

  • Abandoning the mining sites (Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha )

  • Over-grazing

  • Water logging

  • Mineral Processing like grinding of limestone

  • Dumping of industrial effluents

Conservation of Land Resources/Ways to control Land Degradation:

  • Afforestation

  • Proper management of grazing land

  • Stabilisation of sand dunes by growing thorny bushes in arid areas

  • Proper management of waste land

  • Planting of shelter belts of plants along the slopes

  • Control of mining activities

  • Proper discharge and disposal of industrial effluents and wastes after treatment
